Looking at Caught Bass Survival

Freshwater Fisheries biologists studied boat livewells during summer bass fishing tournaments to evaluate how tournament procedures might be improved to increase survival of caught bass. Bass anglers, concerned over the impacts of tournaments on bass populations, requested the study and participated by allowing FWC researchers to log data from their livewells. The baseline data revealed that most livewell systems maintained similar water qualities. Biologists will further research summer tournament practices to ensure minimal mortality during tournaments.
