Red Snapper Research

fish with tag

Red snapper movements and stock recovery are controversial topics in Florida as well as throughout the Gulf of Mexico, and multiple tagging studies are being conducted within Marine Fish Biology to better understand these issues. Red snapper in two Gulf of Mexico locations have been outfitted with acoustic tags lend insight on site fidelity, movement patterns, catch and release mortality and catch rates. In this photo, an externally tagged red snapper is prepared to be released on a descending device within the Madison Swanson Marine Protected Area.
