Directly observing tagged manatees in the field allows biologists to document behavior patterns, associations with other manatees and features of the habitat. These observations provide insights into why manatees visit particular sites. Here, FWC biologists collect data as manatees rest in a canal that provides thermal refuge during a winter cold period.
